Mother of the Year?

How do you suppose I managed this special treatment?

A) They were buttering me up so I would take them to the park.
B) I helped the girls clean their room after company left and they were ever so grateful.
C) I bribed them with a contest in which the winner receives gummy worms.
D) I spent all day cleaning the house, I even scrubbed the toilets, and Earl told them it would be a nice reward for me.

Something for Nothing.

Whoever said you can't get something for nothing hasn't learned the joy of couponing! (PLEASE indulge me again as I share my second trip to Target in one day--yes, I went again last night. I promise not to make it a habit of posting about coupons, for surely it will make some of you feel sad and inadequate, but I can't help but brag about this amazing deal. Please forgive me).

TOTAL for this assortment: $11.19 before tax. (keep reading)

Not bad. The Scrubbing Bubbles sprayers alone are $7.99 a piece on sale (they are battery powered and pretty darn amazing if you ask me) and the refills are $3.94 and I got four of them. But guess what? I swiped my debit card for $14.02 (total after tax) and do you know what the CheckerGuy handed me? Two Target gift cards for $5 a each. That's right! I just pocketed $10 which means I got all that for $4.02. My receipt says, "YOU SAVED $43.53." I think I should frame it. You can applaud me now.

Not bad. But guess what? I went home and printed out a $5 rebate form from SC Johnson for the Scrubbing Bubbles. That's right! I just got all this amazing stuff and made $1.02. Take a deep breath. It's ok, a little jealousy is healthy. *wink*

What have we learned?
Sometimes in life you can get lots of
somethings for nothing.

Spare Change

What would YOU do with $6?

If I wasn't on a diet I might head over to Taco Bell and treat myself to lunch. YUM. Or, I might go to JoAnn's and see what fabric or scrapbooking supplies I could get a good deal on. I might save it, but probably not. BUT, if YOU were into couponing, like ME, you would go to Target. And do you know what $6 could get you at Target?

Two purses, Men's Wrangler Jeans, two packages of GE lightbulbs and four Suave Deordorants. I bet you didn't know $6 could get you so much? Well it can!

Here's how I did it:

Blue purse $7.00 (clearance)
-$5 Target internet printable coupon for a Merona purse
=$2 for a really cute blue purse that I don't NEED, but have really been WANTING for a while.

Purple hobo bag $7.48 (clearance)
-$5 Target internet printable coupon for a Merona purse
=$2.48 for a really cute purple bag with green lining that I didn't NEED, but decided I had to HAVE.

Men's Wrangler Jeans $4.24 (clearance)
-$3 Target internet printable coupon for men's apparel
=$1.24 for some pants that Earl did NEED, since he's lost 26lbs and hasn't bought any pants that don't fall off.

GE Lightbulbs $2.14 x 2
-$ 1.50 Target internet printable coupon x 2
-$1.00 Manufacturer's coupon from the Sunday paper
=.28 for some great lightbulbs and I do NEED because last night I had one burn out.

Suave Deodorant Twin Pack $2.94 x 2
-$3 internet printable coupon that you can find HERE and still use x 2
=+.12 that got applied to my other items

GRAND TOTAL before tax: $5.88

Getting a deal is SO INVIGORATING.

Checklist

If you were going to plan a family camping trip, in the backyard, you might make a list of things to "check" before the big event. Your list might include:
  • Check tent for holes/structural integrity
  • Check air mattress for holes/structural integrity
  • Check the weather forecast
  • Fill tent with blankets and warm things for middle-of-the-night-wakeups. BRRR
  • Find a way to determine how your nearly-two-year-old will do sleeping with mom and dad for the first time since she was four months old.
  • Carefully pick a spot for the tent to rest so that your two older children won't complain about lumps in the back.
It probably WOULD be a good idea to make THIS list, otherwise, you might end up:
  • Repositioning the sleeping arrangements for the two older children AFTER you finally got the nearly-two-year-old to stop wiggling and you thought everyone was going to sleep so that the two older children were comfortable and not longer felt lumps in their backs.
  • Waking up at 3:30AM, FREEZING, to a laughing nearly-two-year-old who decides to crawl over you to see her sisters on the ground and who can't be persuaded to lay back down between mom and dad forcing the dad to exit the tent, in the RAIN, to take the nearly-two-year-old into the house and into her crib.
  • Waking up at 7:30AM in an Air-Mattress-TACO slammed into your husband with your butt/back on the ground and your head 3ft in the air. OUCH
Yeah, checklists are a good thing. Probably SHOULD HAVE made one.

HAPPY EASTER
from the Bunny House

Seems the Easter Bunny took three litte dolls and turned them into bunnies. Guess I'd better stock up on carrots.

EmmyCake

You may have noticed that I've been absent for the blogging world for a while. Believe me when I say I have been busy with other things! Today is a big day for me. I have started a new FELT craft blog and Etsy shop and am having my first giveaway!

I've been feeling super crafty as of late (probably didn't need to tell you that) and with my recent projects I had two people (yes, apparently it only took two) mention that I should try selling my things. Well, that just seemed silly to me. Who wants to buy my things when they can just make their own? I stewed over it for a few days and thought about it some more and then just figured, Why not? I'm going to be crafting any way, might as well see if anyone is interested in any of it. Please don't laugh at me, I realize this is all pretty ridiculous, but life is about trying new things and taking a few little risks, right?

Pretty much the first thing I decided on was the name. I have a daughter named Emily Kate. After birth her name was quickly shortened to Emmy due to Annabelle's inability to say it completely. Around three years old, she and Annabelle had become convinced that Emily's middle name was Cake, thinking that we were always calling her Emmy Cake. This little misconception really brought a smile to our hearts back then and I guess it was stored somewhere in a mental reserve and popped up right at the time that I decided to start a new blog. I call it inspiration. :)

SO, your support in this little endeavor would be greatly appreciated. Please visit this BLOG and enter my giveaway. Please enter even if you don't have a little one that will play with the doughnuts; they will make a great baby shower gift. Follow all the guidelines for getting multiple entries (including adding my button to your blog) and spread the word about EmmyCake. Show me some love, people!

EmmyCake pt. 2

TEN things I didn't blog about while I worked on EmmyCake

1. FUN RUN
Annabelle had a FUN RUN fundraiser for her school. She made some phone calls to friends and family to get sponsors and raised close to $100 for her school. My friend Zoni (thanks again) was willing to lend be her car so I could be there to cheer Annabelle on.

It was one of the cutest things I've seen in a while. She never stopped going the whole time and went over the 35-lap cap.

2. VISITORS
We had our first out-of-state visitors. Earl's sister Susan and her husband Michael made a detour to visit us here in Music City. The girls loved getting to see them for the weekend. We took them to the Opryland Hotel, as we have yet to really explore much of the area.

(Susan, I totally swiped this picture from your web album).

3. PATRIOTIC PROGRAM
Annabelle had her First Grade performance in March. They chose to do a Patriotic Program. Doesn't she look cute in her red, white and blue?
We ended up getting seats right in front of her, but never got her to look in our direction. Her school's music program has two teachers and apparently her teacher was on the other side of the gym and not the one positioned in front of her group. Annabelle kept her eyes on her teacher the WHOLE time making sure that she didn't do something wrong. You could tell that she was conscentrating so hard because while the other kids around her where swaying and dancing around, she was like a statue and watched her teacher and only, just barely, moved her lips.

4. HOUSE HUNTING
We started looking into houses in the area. Not to make any of you non-Tennesseans sick to your stomachs, but our dream house is 2176 sq. ft. on a large wooded lot. It's two stories with a full finished basement with rec room, two fire places, a two car garage and workshop. Plus many other features and it is listed for............wait for it.......................$159,900. You should all move here! We more than likely won't get this particular house because we still have a few months to wait. We hope to find something great in our price range though.

5. COUPONING
I've always been a sucker for a deal. Because in life, sometimes you CAN get something for nothing and the best things in life ARE free. I'm often tempted to buy something that I don't have an immediate use for simply because it's such a great price. I check every end-cap in Target searching for their glorious little red clearance stickers.
Now I usually have a coupon or two on hand, but when Annabelle was a baby I was really into "couponing." "Couponing" is serious business, folks! It is matching up weekly store sales with coupons and maximizing your savings. I remember I was up to about 7 mustards in my pantry that I had gotten all for under 20 cents, if not for FREE. After Emily was born and we moved I fell away from the couponing game. I didn't always have the internet to look up deals and the stores in my area where unfamiliar to me. The week that we moved to Nashville I was in Target when I passed a lady who had this huge zip up binder full of coupons. I stopped to ask her about it and once she explained it to me I asked her if I could touch it! It was amazing. She had all her coupons stored in baseball card holders and organized by catergories. It looked something like this: (because I can't find the pictures that I actually took with my cell phone that day).

AMAZING, right?. I never got around to working on mine. I just last month finally bought my binder and started collecting coupons. With my focus being on EmmyCake I haven't gotten around to organizing it. I'm super stoked to get it done soon though. I have managed to run out and get four tubs of butter for FREE. The game of Connect Four for FREE. And a travel size game of Catch Phrase for $1.99. It was all from using coupons and matching them with sales.

6. A SISTER VISIT
There is an eight-year age difference between my dear sister and I so it's safe to say that we weren't all that close growing up. Well, of course as the younger sister, I just adored her; but as the older sister, she was just plain annoyed with me most of the time. (I'm sure she is going to have some comment to make about this, but it's MY blog so I get to tell the story my way). When I was a teenager I would tell her that once I turned 18 everything would be ok and we would be super close.
It happened exactly like I said it would. (In case you're wondering: I have magical powers). I turned 18, moved in with her three months later and we have been best friends ever since. Once I had children and lived far away from her our relationship changed slightly. We still talked on the phone every day and some days multiple times, but whenever we got the chance to visit in person (once or twice a year) everything became about my girls. To say that she LOVES being an Aunt is an understatement! So although I had my one-on-one time with her over the phone, in person she was very focused on being a super great Aunt This didn't leave much for sister time.
Can I say how much I am enjoying having my sister so close? Now, because she gets to see the girls so often, whenever we are together we always plan an outing or some time that we can just hang out and be sisters and she doesn't feel like she is missing limited opportunities to be Aunt Chelle.
Wow, that was a really long lead in for me just wanting to say that my sister visited over the weekend and it was fun!

7. PRIMARY EASTER ACTIVITY
Our ward had a Primary activity. It wasn't just an egg hunt they planned several "stations" for the children to go to for various crafts/Easter lessons. Unfortunately, all that was followed by an Easter Egg "Gather" (I can't even call it a "hunt") in the gym. Whatever the reason why-- when it was such a beautiful day outside--they scattered eggs over the gym floor, I'll never understand. (Sorry, ladies that planned it, I still think you're great).

Aren't my little "hunt & gatherers" stinkin' cute? Their baskets were overflowing. I had Em start stuffing eggs into her pockets.

This was Molly's first Easter Egg Hunt, ( I mean "gather") and it was cute to watch. The first egg she got to was popped open so she saw the candy inside. She really wanted the candy! I convinced her to put the candy and egg in her basket and move on but when we got to the next egg, she grabbed it and stopped to open it. I had to explain to her that there was no time for this! She caught on after that and ended up with quite a stash.

SEE what a beautiful day it was?? This was taken OUTSIDE on the church grounds after our INSIDE "gather."

This is what happens when sisters are busy chatting in the front seat and baby's candy basket is left within arm's length. Oh, Molly!

8. MY PRETTY EASTER GIRLS

9. WEIGHT-LOSS
I've still been drinking my shakes and workin' my butt off with Bob Harper. I've lost 23 lbs. in 10 weeks and I'm feeling great. I fittin' into some clothes I haven't seen in a long time. Whoot!

10. NEW CALLING
Someone around here may or may not have a new calling, that you may or may not want to check back for details on.
