If i had turned 30, i probably would have thrown myself a party. Not a party to celebrate, but a party to distract--to keep the mind from dwelling. It would have to be a party with a solid theme. Perhaps the 80's? Because in the 80's i would have been a child and would most certainly NOT be dwelling on things like old age.
If this party were going to be a success--in being a distraction--it would have to keep me really busy with things like research, decorations, food, party guests.
I would probably start by creating a "party logo" because every themed party needs one, right? That logo could be used in various ways, including treats bags and hanging records.
The research could be turned into posters that highlighted major events of each year and then those posters could be hung and used as decorations.
I might also do research on all the different foods and candy created in the 80's so that i would be sure that the things i served were decade-appropriate.

I would scrounge around the house for anything and everything that i loved as a child and display these items around the party scene.

There would need to be an awesome birthday cake as well. Something from the 80's of course. If i were lucky i would be able to find a vintage cake pan on ebay and have a cool sister who's really good at cake decorating.

(pay NO attention to the name and age on this cake)

If i were really lucky there would be out-of-town party guests to show up.
There would be games and 80's music. And of course, singing!

Above all that, the MOST important thing to have...COSTUMES!

Too bad no one i know recently turned 30, i could have thrown them a totally radical party.
